1996 - 2009 Fojo was part of establishing the Birzeit University Media Development Centre (MDC) in Ramallah. The insititute offers further training of journalists in radio, print, TV and new media.
Despite almost constant political turmoil and insecurity, a seemingly endless vicious circle of violence and drastic restrictions on peoples' freedom of movement, MDC has been able to continue its activities, and is in 2011 the leading journalism training institute in Palestine.
The institute's print journalism training program was launched in 1996 and a TV unit was set up in 2000. Fojo, with financial backing from the Swedish International Cooperation Development Agency Sida, worked closely with MDC’s print and TV units. The institute's Radio Training Unit, established in late 1995, was sponsored by the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Germany.
